Chapter 1 – The Midnight Milk Run

In the quiet hour when most creatures are tucked in bed, Mr. Whiskerford set out on his nightly errand. Tail high, lantern swinging, he padded softly along the cobbled lanes, a crate of clinking cream bottles balanced with suspicious ease. The moon shone brightly above him, casting a silvery glow on his whiskers.

Of course, Mr. Whiskerford wasn’t making deliveries for just anyone. Oh no. His customers were the true connoisseurs — the cream fiends, the lickers of lids, the ones who believed a dollop could cure most ailments (or at least brighten a sour mood). He fancied himself something of a hero, though others might say “smuggler.”

At each doorstep, a pawprint mark and a satisfied purr sealed the deal. Sometimes a badger would grumble from behind the hedge, or a squirrel would waggle a scolding paw about cholesterol. But Mr. Whiskerford was unbothered. Cream was destiny.

By dawn, his crate was empty, his whiskers sticky, and the village just a little happier. And as he licked his paw clean, he thought to himself: “Tomorrow night, perhaps double the bottles.”

After all — indulgence was a business that never slept.
